Why is love, good love, GREAT love, hard to come by?

When you're younger the word "love" is much easier to grasp, to swallow. It's what you say to your parents everyday when you leave the house or hang up the phone. You say out loud "I love him!" when watching a cute movie. But why is when you get older, the word becomes a different meaning and in so many ways, or does it really? As growing up as a girl, we are brought up with this "Cinderella" syndrome. We grow up to think that when we become a woman, that we will find love, the love of our life, perhaps our soul mate. We will get married and live happily ever after (Doesn't sound like your typical Cali Story). They say that Cinderella is proof that a pair of shoes can change your life, will it? You date all these guys, these guys that teach you about yourself, they break your heart and make you stronger, sometimes stronger than you ever imagined you could be. You bounce back, and its back to "girls nights, " dancing, laughing, flirting, and then again another guy comes along. So we go through these motions time after time, but no matter what has happened or how much we have been hurt, or what hurt we may have caused to guys, in the end we are still looking for the same thing we have grown up to search for. My dad always says "Steph, when you least expect it, you'll find love" and you know you have all heard that over and over. But what I'm starting to realize is even in those unexpected times, you can't think that just because you met this guy and it was unexpected, that maybe this is the ONE. I think that we girls would be better off if we were told while growing up, that love is priceless, however relationships can be hard work. So when you are ready to put in some time and perhaps some hard work, then make yourself available to finding love. Finding a person that you can share your hopes and dreams with, someone that you can laugh with, someone that will fall in love with you...has to be with someone that is going to allow you to love them back! Now I don't remember reading any books, watching any movies, or being told that that one of the hardest obstacles you might have to go through when finding love is that the guy might have some hang ups and will have a hard time allowing you to love him. I never thought about some people having a hard time being loved, like really loved. I wear my heart on my sleeve, and it's true I totally do, but it's also true that I would rather open my heart to possible love then to hold it captive and locked up, watching time pass you by. Since I lost my mom at a young age, I always love the people in my life as much as I possibly can because life is too short and you never know when someone may be taken from you. I think that is why I am the way I am today. I love to love, it's easy for me. Don't get me wrong, I don't pass out my love like candy, but if you can love me at my worst, then to me you are pretty awesome, you deserve me at my best, and I will love you! Timing is everything, and love always finds it's way, so long as you're open to it (and don't give up)!
