Grandpa's are a safe haven in a child’s world. They’re full of hugs and kisses, or as my grandpa would always write to me "xoxo" ,tell fun stories, and spoil us when we’re kids!
Grandpa's tend to be less judgmental than our parents; so as we grow older, we rely on the wisdom they can offer, from years of life experience. I will miss my grandpa every day. I will miss him always asking me "Are you being good Stephanie?" But most of all I will miss the way he hugged me every time I saw him.

Remembering Great Music ♪

Have you ever thought about how music has changed so much! I heard a song the other day and I started thinking about how great music was "back in the day." Now I wasn't there to live it, and to hear it live, but being able to watch old TV shows or see videos on YouTube seems to be just as good. It seems like music back then was more of an emotion and had deeper meanings than a lot of the music now. Maybe that is a bold statement to make but the lyrics and the passion that was put into the music just seems more real. Today music is more commercialized, and all for marketing, and that is great, it just seems to me to have a different meaning. I would have loved to listen to Frank Sinatra LIVE, or Billie Holiday, can you imagine?! Watch some of the videos with the be below songs, I enjoyed them!

A Day in my Office- MLB '09 Draft - Scott Boras

"Baseball? It's just a game - as simple as a ball and a bat. Yet, as complex as the American spirit it symbolizes. It's a sport, business - and sometimes even religion"
~Ernie Harwell, The Game for All America, 1955

You often hear people say "I hate my job." I can honestly say that I love my job, I wouldn't trade it for anything! I work for the smartest business man, in the world of sports, media calls "Super Agent", Scott Boras. Some people have no idea what happens behind the scenes of baseball and what it takes to get these athletes where they dream to be. It all begins in the MLB Draft, 2009 was another big year for our office. Here is an article that was written, to give you an idea.

What a peach: Boras orchestrates satisfaction
By Tim Brown,
Yahoo! Sports

LOS ANGELES – In the hour after Monday night’s deadline here, his staff members were scattered amid marker-covered white boards and paperwork pushed aside on the long V-shaped table in the war room of Scott Boras Corp.
They sorted through nourishment that had arrived in square boxes at the front door of the two-story, glass-and-steel building in Newport Beach, Calif., devouring sausage and pepperoni pizzas at the end of one of the more hectic and successful days in the history of their company.
The stories of Stephen Strasburg and Dustin Ackley and Donavan Tate and Jacob Turner and LeVon Washington and others surrounded them. They were recorded on those sliding white boards stacked and mounted on two entire walls, every offer and counteroffer there, every contract term agreed upon, dismissed and pending there. A projection system in which three screens carried fingertip access from an expansive in-house database idled.
Lawyers had stood by, as had accountants, and an expert in baseball’s collective bargaining agreement. An operator pushed the calls of two or three general managers at a time, and one on the staff was on the line with the players’ union for the final hour, because the union needed to hear about any major league contracts, of which there were three (Strasburg, Ackley and Turner).
In a nearby room, the deadline passed, Scott Boras himself telephoned the families of nine young men, many of whom he’d taken into those final hours. Seven had reached agreement. Washington, an infielder taken 30th by the Tampa Bay Rays, had not, and neither had James Paxton, a Kentucky left-hander taken 37th by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Strasburg’s contract – for $15.1 million guaranteed over four seasons from the Washington Nationals – had come last, with 77 seconds to spare, and with the most fanfare. The contract was the largest ever for an amateur player. The Seattle Mariners had agreed to pay Ackley $7.5 million guaranteed, the second-largest contract ever for a position player (Mark Teixeira(notes) was first). Turner, a high-school pitcher, could get as much as $7 million from the Tigers. Oklahoma State lefty Andy Oliver went in the second round but got first-round money ($1.495 million), also from the Tigers.
“Then I get to talk to the parents,” Boras said Tuesday morning. “I’ve known them for a long time. There’s absolute relief about the direction they’re headed, what they’ve accomplished. It’s one of the best parts of the job.”
He told them what would be next. He would meet Tate on Tuesday in San Diego, where they would formalize his contract. In the coming days, he told them separately, he’d see them in Oakland (Grant Green), or Milwaukee (Kentrail Davis), or Detroit or D.C. For a few minutes he joined in on every family’s celebration.
“They’ve been waiting for a long time for that moment,” Boras said. “It’s the start of their dream.”
Given a little more than two months since the draft itself, philosophical conversations on slotting and other issues had pretty much died of fatigue long before the 72 hours that led to the deadline. By Friday or Saturday, Boras had an idea which negotiations were sure to go fast and which would run into Monday evening. By then, the sole topic was economic fit. He believed Strasburg would get done, for example, because Nationals GM Mike Rizzo also believed Strasburg was an exceptional talent. That was enough to find common ground, he believed. He thought Ackley would sign in Seattle, because he knew Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik saw and valued talent as he – Boras – did. Same with David Chadd, vice president of amateur scouting for the Tigers.
So, sometime around Saturday morning, Boras stocked up on coffee and his favorite fruits from Melissa’s Produce (founders Joe and Sharon Hernandez share a suite at Angel Stadium and have season seats at nearby Dodger Stadium), strapped in and, as he said, “stayed glued to my chair for 72 hours.” Swirling nearby, his strategic draft team of at least a dozen (headed by former big-league righty Scott Chiamparino), which included three lawyers and a statistics staff. A staffer took Boras from call to call, from team to team, without Boras ever actually dialing a phone, that seamless.
Much of the attention was on Strasburg, of course. He had the 100-mph fastball. He had the stupid slider. He was going to save baseball in D.C. He was going to get $50 million and use the reflecting pool as an ashtray for his victory cigar.
“The idea that the bonus structure was new and the talent level was extraordinary,” Boras said. “Everything about the negotiations was a story in itself because it represented new boundaries.”
The negotiations began to remind Boras of those for free agents Greg Maddux(notes) and Alex Rodriguez(notes).
“There was no market comparison,” he said.
Then there was the usual backlash.
“For some reason,” he said, “the public always seems to take the side of the team and not the player.”
Or the agent. Particularly not the agent. Particularly not this agent.
“I hadn’t noticed,” he said, laughing.
By 6 p.m. in the war room, three hours from the deadline, there were multiple possible deals being batted between Washington D.C. and Newport Beach. More money (as much as $20 million) over more years. Less money over fewer years. Different amounts of guaranteed money. Potential opt outs. Recapture of money if there was an opt out. It went on and on.
Boras sustained himself on peaches. The clock wound toward the deadline. With about six minutes left, he got on the phone again – maybe for the 10th or 11th time Monday – with Rizzo.
“So, what’s up?” Boras asked him. “How ya doin’? What do you think you’ll do for lunch tomorrow?”
Playing with Rizzo, Rizzo getting the joke, both knowing they didn’t have time for this.
“There is a moment,” Boras said, “where everybody feels their needs are taken care of.”
It arrived with a full 77 seconds left. The Nationals notified the commissioner’s office. Boras nodded to his designated staffer, who notified the union. Nationals president Stan Kasten later told reporters in Washington, “We didn’t even need that last minute.”
By 11 p.m., Boras had left behind the pizza party. He was being driven north to Pasadena, where he’d join another client, Matt Holliday(notes), and his wife, Leslee, at their hotel. He arrived to find them in a courtyard with Mike Fiore, Boras’ vice president and a 12-year employee. The four of them caught up. They talked free agency. Approaching 2 a.m., Boras was the passenger as Fiore drove them away from the hotel, through the streets of Pasadena.
“Hey,” Boras suddenly said, “you’re not going to stop?”
“Where?” Fiore asked.
“Winchell’s. You’re not going to stop?”
Fiore turned the car around. A man can have only so many peaches. (“By the way,” Boras said, “Mike was not disappointed with the Winchell’s decision.” Said Fiore: “I would not have stopped.”) So it was with his maple bar (a dietary exception he normally reserves for Sundays) and cup of coffee in hand that Boras began to let go of the 2009 draft. And began to think about Bryce Harper and Anthony Ranaudo.
Harper, a catcher, is the Las Vegas high-school phenom. Ranaudo is a 6-foot-7 right-hander at LSU.
That’s next year’s draft.
Stephen Strasburg signed a four-year, $15.1 million deal with the Washington Nationals.

Change a childs LIFE ♥ Make them SMILE

What better way to spend your money, than donating to a Charity! I have heard about Operation Smile so I decided to do some research and see what this Charity is all about and how I can help. My heart went out to so many children, reading their stories, and looking at picture after picture. Operation Smile's mission statement, “Mobilizing a world of generous hearts to heal children’s smiles and transform lives across the globe.” I thought WOW, this is amazing, people helping children to smile all over the world. Founded in 1982, Operation Smile, volunteers have treated more than 130,000 children that are born with cleft lips, cleft palates, and any other type of facial deformities. Operation Smile is currently in 51 countries. For as little as $240, you can make a donation that will help Operation Smile change a child’s life, giving them the gift of surgery. You can also donate just $20 a month, which is what you would spend on a couple drinks, or coffee..right? So think about that the next time you spend $20 on something each month. Every month you'll smile because of what your giving to a child, I know I will!

Live music now at The Canary, Newport Beach on Mondays. Actually, its not a new "now", apparently its been like 5 months. I used to go every Monday with friends because it's Industry Night, find a friend that works for a restaurant! It gets pretty packed, so you have to get there early to get a table or a spot at the bar. Brett Young plays there on Monday’s and this was my first time hearing him play there. He is from Orange County, he's pretty well known and plays at other places in town. He covers a lot of John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, and has his own stuff as well. I can’t remember the last time I could go somewhere close to home, in Newport and listen to live GOOD music. We chatted before I left, asked him to play some Jonathan Nathanson next week and he said he’ll have to refresh on his lyrics, and of course he knew exactly what song I wanted him to sing/play “Come on Get Higher.” Can I just throw in there that he’s super cute (girls he’s taken-Boo). Me and my girls will be there every Monday, catching up, having wine, and listening to Mr. Brett! He's on Myspace if you want to support his music, http://www.myspace.com/brettyoungsmusic

~ Don't Change for Anyone ~

I DO MY THING AND YOU DO YOUR THING. I AM NOT IN THIS WORLD TO LIVE UP TO YOUR EXPECTATIONS AND YOU ARE NOT HERE TO LIVE UP TO MINE. YOU ARE YOU, AND I AM I, AND IF BY SOME CHANCE WE FIND EACH OTHER.
ITS Beautiful ♥

We're constantly told in life, time and time again, “Don’t change for anyone.” It’s easy sometimes to conform, to see what you think you are supposed to be, and you change. Take us girls for example; independent, know exactly who we are and then BAM! We meet a guy. We lose ourselves, and start becoming the girl, that we think this guy may want us to be. An iPod that was once full of Brittany Spears, Norah Jones, and 80’s starts slowly changing to Rock, Indie music, or artists you have never heard of because that is what the new guy listens too. Having an open mind to music is great, and having an eclectic taste for music is even better. However, changing your taste only because you want him to think that you both happen to like the SAME music is not good because it’s not fully you. If he is going to not like you or be open minded about you because you happen to like the “typical” girl music, then you don’t want him. Really you don’t. You’re TiVo list now consists of ESPN Sports center, Jesse James on Spike TV, or whatever shows you watch with him (missing your favorite show). Either of those might not seem like a big deal, but they are. You shouldn’t change your interests or what you enjoy out of life just because someone comes along. It’s so important to be true to yourself and really do the things you enjoy, as well as trying new things with this other person and “adding” to your life, not substituting. Your friend and family is everything, don’t give that up. It is true that when you’re in a serious relationship, or perhaps married that you have maybe less time for friends, and it’s hard to do the things that you use to do. Do something about that then, make the time. You are you when you’re with your best friend. You are who you are when you’re with a sibling. Remember how much you actually need that in your life. This is true because you had these friends, and your siblings before this new person that came into your life. I know I have been guilty of this in the past and I see some of my friends (girls and guys) who go through this as well. You tend to hear someone say after a break-up “ I really lost myself in those 3 years I was with him/her,” or you hear “I can’t wait to get back to what I use to love and the things I use to do!” It should never get to that point. Sure it’s easier said than done, but if you think about it, it’s actually pretty simple. Love yourself! You are you because of everything under your shell. Your image is only the surface. Find someone that is going to accept you, appreciate you, love you for exactly who you are, all of you. Be with someone that makes YOU want to be a better person, that pushes you (not change). True happiness will be with someone that not only you can live with, but that you cannot live without. They have to take the good with the bad. Most importantly, know you’re not going to change! In return, you need to know that you also cannot change someone (c’mon girls we know men don’t change). If someone goes into a relationship with things that they would already change about that person, it will not work. This goes for any type of relationship, a friendship, a co-worker, or your family. In the last year, I have learned so much about myself, and relationships from my own experiences and seeing others around me. I truly understand the meaning “do not to change for another person”, to be comfortable in your own skin. Confidence is beauty, and beauty...it's an ATTITUDE! Let your heart feel what your head has been telling you all along. You can’t lose yourself for anyone, because at the end of the day, you only have YOU, and you only have this life to live as YOU, once.

Do You Ever Just Think of Random Things?

I love these randoms thoughts:

MapQuest really needs to start their directions on #5. Pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

Do you remember when you were a kid, playing Nintendo and it wouldn't work? You take the cartridge out, blow in it and that would magically fix the problem. Every kid in America did that, but how did we all know how to fix the problem? There was no internet or message boards or FAQ's. We just figured it out. Today's kids are soft.

I think everyone has a movie that they love so much, it actually becomes stressful to watch it with other people. I'll end up wasting 90 minutes shiftily glancing around to confirm that everyone's laughing at the right parts, then making sure I laugh just a little bit harder (and a millisecond earlier) to prove that I'm still the only one who really, really gets it.

How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

The only time I look forward to a red light is when I'm trying to finish a text, e-mail or bbm.

"Lol" has gone from meaning, "laugh out loud" to "I have nothing else to say".

What would happen if I hired two private investigators to follow each other?

Bad decisions make good stories

Why is it that during an ice-breaker, when the whole room has to go around and say their name and where they are from, I get so incredibly nervous? Like I know my name, I know where I'm from, this shouldn't be a problem....

Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, hitting the G-spot, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet my ass everyone can find and push the Snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time every time...

Have you ever been walking down the street and realized that you're going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to ensure that no one in the surrounding area thinks you're crazy by randomly switching directions on the sidewalk.

Was learning cursive really necessary?

~ Flying Without Wings ~

When you hear or read, "flying without wings", what is the first thing that comes to your mind? I would probably have to say the first thing that comes to my mind is to be FREE. Following that thought, being out there int he world, taking chances, living life without someone or something guiding you. One could say that a lot of times when it comes to finding love, you will fly without wings. Two people, taking a chance, and knowing there is nothing there to catch them, taking a "leap of fate." You can fly without wings in your everyday life, your career, or a marriage. Getting out there and finding what is important to you, and finding what you want. If we all had wings, we would be soaring through life, safe, we know that those wings would always hold us up. This would not leave much room to fall, to learn from our mistakes or struggles. I would chose not to have wings. I recently heard this song "Flying Without Wings, " by Westlife, and found myself listening to every single word. The words are pretty powerful and easy to relate to. This song became an instant hit in the United Kingdom and many parts of the world. Ruben Studdard sang this song on American Idol. Delta Goodrem Ft. Brian McFadden also did an amazing version of this song (could be a top wedding song on my list). Jack Johnson or Matt Nathanson should cover this song!
Here is a little taste:
"Everybody's looking for that something
One thing that makes it all complete
You'll find it in the strangest places
Places you never knew it could be

Some find it in the face of their children
Some find it in their lover's eyes
Who can deny the joy it brings
When you've found that special thing
You're flying without wings

Some find it sharing every morning
Some in their solitary lives
You'll find it in the words of others
A simple line can make you laugh or cry

You'll find it in the deepest friendship
The kind you cherish all your life
And when you know how much that means
You've found that special thing
You're flying without wings

So, impossible as they may seem
You've got to fight for every dream
Cos who's to know which one you let go
Would have made you complete......."

People in your life: Reason, Season...Lifetime

People always come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. When you figure out which it is, you know exactly what to do.

♥ When someone is in your life for a REASON,

it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty,
or to provide you with guidance and support,
to aid you physically, emotionally, or even spiritually.
They may seem like a godsend to you, and they are.
They are there for the reason you need them to be.
Then, without any wrong doing on your part or at an inconvenient time,
this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
Sometimes they die. Sometimes they just walk away.
Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done.
The prayer you sent up has been answered and it is now time to move on.

♥ When people come into your life for a SEASON,

it is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn.
They may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.
And like Spring turns to Summer and Summer to Fall,
the season eventually ends.

♥ LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons;
those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation.
Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person/people (anyway);
and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas in your life.
It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

Thank you for being part of my life, whether you were a reason, a season or a lifetime ♥

xoxo

- Think About it -

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life. Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to
help themselves to the coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is but normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. Be assured that the cup itself, adds no quality to the coffee in most cases, just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups... and then began eyeing each others cups.

Now consider this: Life is the coffee, and the jobs, money and position in society are the cups They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of
Life we live. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to
enjoy the coffee God has provided us."

God brews the coffee, not the cups..........enjoy your coffee.

What a girl needs for Palm Desert

I'm ready to go back to Palm Desert, its been about 3 weeks since I last went. My birthday with 15 of my best girlfriends was probably my best trip this summer. If I could go out there every weekend, I would! I can never get enough, its just so nice to be out of Newport and in a different scene. Palm D is my Mammoth, home away from home. I'm hoping to get back out there in the next couple weeks, reservations in the works!

New Adventure: Golf

So I've been saying for the past as years that I want to learn the game of Golf. You might be thinking, me, really? I know I may not come across as the golfer type, is the golfer type? If so please tell me so I can make notes! My friend Mike works at Strawberry farms and we talked about a week ago to actually get me out there and let the teaching begin. I'm so excited! When I was little my dad would take me miniature golfing every Friday. We both are very competitive so there were times when I would get so mad if I went over 2 strokes. Those darn church doors that go up and down, and right when your ball gets to the opening that door comes down, sending your pathetic little ball rolling right back to you (you know what I'm talking about).so here I am all grown up, in fact can't remember the last miniature game I played, and I'm ready for the real game. I've been to the driving range once with an ex and that was interesting to say the least. I currently don't have a sport to play or a hobby so I thought that golf would be a great thing to try! Wish me. Luck.

"If you watch a game, it's fun. If you play at it, it's recreation. If you work at it, it's golf" -Bob Hope

Oh, somewhere, over the rainbow, way up high.....

"Someday, I’ll wish upon a star,
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me.
Where trouble melts like lemon drops,
High above the chiminey top,
That’s where you’ll find me."
- ISRAEL KAMAKAWIWO‘OLE’S

Why is love, good love, GREAT love, hard to come by?

When you're younger the word "love" is much easier to grasp, to swallow. It's what you say to your parents everyday when you leave the house or hang up the phone. You say out loud "I love him!" when watching a cute movie. But why is when you get older, the word becomes a different meaning and in so many ways, or does it really? As growing up as a girl, we are brought up with this "Cinderella" syndrome. We grow up to think that when we become a woman, that we will find love, the love of our life, perhaps our soul mate. We will get married and live happily ever after (Doesn't sound like your typical Cali Story). They say that Cinderella is proof that a pair of shoes can change your life, will it? You date all these guys, these guys that teach you about yourself, they break your heart and make you stronger, sometimes stronger than you ever imagined you could be. You bounce back, and its back to "girls nights, " dancing, laughing, flirting, and then again another guy comes along. So we go through these motions time after time, but no matter what has happened or how much we have been hurt, or what hurt we may have caused to guys, in the end we are still looking for the same thing we have grown up to search for. My dad always says "Steph, when you least expect it, you'll find love" and you know you have all heard that over and over. But what I'm starting to realize is even in those unexpected times, you can't think that just because you met this guy and it was unexpected, that maybe this is the ONE. I think that we girls would be better off if we were told while growing up, that love is priceless, however relationships can be hard work. So when you are ready to put in some time and perhaps some hard work, then make yourself available to finding love. Finding a person that you can share your hopes and dreams with, someone that you can laugh with, someone that will fall in love with you...has to be with someone that is going to allow you to love them back! Now I don't remember reading any books, watching any movies, or being told that that one of the hardest obstacles you might have to go through when finding love is that the guy might have some hang ups and will have a hard time allowing you to love him. I never thought about some people having a hard time being loved, like really loved. I wear my heart on my sleeve, and it's true I totally do, but it's also true that I would rather open my heart to possible love then to hold it captive and locked up, watching time pass you by. Since I lost my mom at a young age, I always love the people in my life as much as I possibly can because life is too short and you never know when someone may be taken from you. I think that is why I am the way I am today. I love to love, it's easy for me. Don't get me wrong, I don't pass out my love like candy, but if you can love me at my worst, then to me you are pretty awesome, you deserve me at my best, and I will love you! Timing is everything, and love always finds it's way, so long as you're open to it (and don't give up)!

The Invisible Rope - HILARIOUS

I recently was shown the "invisible rope." It's so funny! There is one outside with cars, and the second one is in the grocery store (SOUND recommended).

Cherish family, Cherish your friends.....your life ♥

A year ago July 24 th, a dear friend passed away, Christopher Laurie "Topher." One of my best friends, Brittany, lost her best friend, her husband, and father of her 2 daughters. He was a great friend, a friend that always brought a smile to your face. I remember sitting at Chris' service and watching his tribute video, and it bringing back some great memories, I laughed, I cried, I thought "Wow, he loved Britt, Stella, and Lucy, his new baby on the way so much!!" When you were around him, you could see the love he had for them, it was the way he looked at them and was so proud. That day showed me that loving someone, and having someone to love you is the most AMAZING gift god can give you. Love can change your life forever. I recently broke up with my boyfriend around that time, and I knew I made the right decision. A relationship is work at times, but loving someone is easy! I knew that I wanted to find the love that Chris and Britt shared, because that was real and so strong.

We celebrated Stella's 3rd birthday yesterday. Brittany, and the Laurie Family threw an amazing party, "Fiesta De Stella.". There were probably about 100 people, and so much love everywhere. Singing ♫ Happy Birthday ♫, as Stella awaited to blow out her candles, I was thinking how proud Chris must be, looking down at his beautiful daughter Stella, his wife, new baby Lucy, and all the family and friends! Brittany is one of the strongest people I know and I am so thankful to have her in my life. I love you B, Stella and Lucy!
♥ In loving memory ~ Chris Laurie ♥
