The Good Ones are at the TOP

Girls are like apples on trees. The best ones are at the top of the tree. The boys don't want to reach for the good ones because they're afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they just get the rotten apples that are on the ground, that aren't as good, but easy.
So the apples at the top think that there is something wrong with them, when in reality, they are amazing. That is why we women just have to be a little patient and the right Man, the one who takes a chance to find the good, right apple. The one who is brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree; will come some day! Silly boys... if they could only figure out how to use a damn ladder.

Unanswered Prayers

I received an e-mail this morning from a client (friend of a friend) and I could not agree, and relate more! Below is what made me think.... just a thought for today. If you don't practice faith, religion, etc. you can still relate to the e-mail.

"What's up everybody? How many of y'all can look back over the last few years and think of a time when you really wanted something to happen for you that never happened? Or maybe it did happen just at a much later time. It could be anything from a new job to hoping a girl falls in love with you. Instantly, when I think of this, I think about Garth Brooks' song "Unanswered Prayers". For those of you who aren't country music fans it's a song about all the times we pray for something we want to happen real bad and God doesn't seemingly answer the call. The song says "some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers." Country fan or not we can all agree that we don't always know what's best for us. Now I know everybody reading this could give me a story right off the top of their head about this. And I'd bet that in most situations you're real glad it happened just like it did. For me, the easy answer is baseball. When I was drafted all I wanted was to get to the big leagues as soon as possible. I thought I was just wasting time in the minors and I didn't need to get any better. I thought all I needed was the opportunity and my career would take off. I used to pray that God would just let me leapfrog the lower levels and join the ranks of the Atlanta Braves. What I eventually found out was that without all those lessons learned in the minors I would have NEVER made it.... Ever. I had to do a lot of growing up in the minors. I had a AA pitching coach that I hated with a passion because he would air me out every single time I didn't do something the way a big league would. I prayed that God would take me out of that situation every day. Looking back, that man helped me grow up more than any coach I've ever had in pro baseball. And if I had been called to the big leagues right when I wanted to I can say with a 100% certainty that I would have gotten crushed and been out of the game immediately. Sometimes it just takes a little time for God's perfect plan to run it's course. And, apparently, even more time for me to realize I don't have all the answers.
Let me dive a little deeper into this. I've been involved in some great conversation this past week about our purpose in whatever situation we may be in. You might be wondering why God would have you in a certain job or place. You might wonder why God would allow you to struggle through things when He has the power to bring you out of it. First, let me say this... God doesn't give you anything you can't handle with Him strengthening you. He wants to be part of our lives, and doesn't intend for us to try and go it alone. Second, think about it in another light. Who might you be affecting wherever you're at? The situations we are in are no accident. We are put there for a purpose. If you are able to help one person find the Lord in a given situation then the Kingdom of Heaven is greatly improved. It may not fit into our plans but I promise you it fits into God's plan. Last, hopefully this comes across like I want, should we as humans question why we are put into any situation? Can we really question our creator/savior after all they've done for us? I know I do it all the time... wonder what God thinks about that? I bet God's looking at me going "seriously... again?" I'll tell you what I need to do. I need to care less about what I think is best for me and do more trusting of what God's already figured out is best for me."

There are so many times when I think to myself, "why is this happening?" or "why me?" Then I remind myself, there is a reason, there is a reason I am being tested right now. I am thankful for the obstacles I have gone through because it has made me the strong person I am today. When times seem tough, its easy to take things for granted and feel sorry for yourself, but someone else in the world always has it a little tougher. What's that saying, "Great things come to those who wait." I believe that. We cannot appreciate the good, the great, or miracles, unless we have experienced some bad.

September 11, 2001 - Honor, Courage, Freedom

Today, Friday September 11th, marks the eight anniversary of September 11 terrorist attacks that killed 2,752 people. The loss of friends, family, co-workers, and strangers. "Eight Septembers have come and gone," Obama said. "Nearly 3,000 days have passed, almost one for each one who has been taken from us." Obama laid a wreath of white flowers at the Pentagon this morning, where 184 people lost their lives. In London, England, U.S Ambassador Louis Susman and his wife, laid a wreath at the September 11 Memorial Garden in Governor Square. No one could capture the terror the 40 people aboard Flight 93 must have endured, Powell said. They were strangers to each other who "represented the very best diversity that is America," he said. "In place of fear, they found the courage of attack," he said. "They seized the moment, and they lost their lives in so doing. We are here to ... honor their spirits." People went to bed last night, tossing and turning, knowing that the following day would be the 11th of September. Some people might have tossed and turned for other reasons, they are going through a break up, they lost their job, or maybe recently lost a loved one. But when we all woke up this morning, across the world, not just in the United States, people are feeling the same heart ache. I was walking aside a man today, leaving Gelson's Market, and he was carrying three separate wrapped roses. I thought to myself, they must be for his wife, and I said "Those flowers are beautiful!" He replied "they are for the three girls that work for me." The first word that came to my mind was appreciation. I then thought, is today making him think, and want to express whatever the reason is that he will make them smile this morning? We look back, and can remember where we were that morning, not wanting to believe our eyes and hears. It usually takes something tragic to happen for people to realize what they have, what they have lost. Every year on this day, Americans remember this tragic thing we all went through and we really take a look at our lives and say "Thank You." Thank you for my life today, thank you for my family, thank you for my health. For some people, it hits closer to home today because this day took a loved one, and they are saying "Thank you for getting me through another day, another day of being strong." At the end of today, we are all in this together, and we have to be thankful so many things. Losing a loved one is the hardest part of life. My heart goes out to every person who lost a loved one on 9/11 and my heart goes out even more to every child that lost a parent because I know their pain. I am thankful for what I have today. I am thankful for my family and friends. I am thankful for my freedom and every man and woman that has fought for that freedom. September 11, 2001 was tragic, but we have come so far, and we continue to stay strong as a country, and that, that is Courage.

What Television News Should Be

We often change the channel when its the hourly news because its always so depressing, if its not a highs speed chase, its a gun shot in your local area, an Amber Alert, or about some celebrity doing "something", oh and how could I forget the mortgage industry crashing. There aren't a lot of reports about great things, wonderful things people are doing out there in the world. Why is that? Does that mean that we really would rather see people suffering, in pain, or criminals in action? Or does it mean that the world, our society has not expressed enough out loud that we need positive things, great things in front of us? I came across this "AMAZING NEWS" through a charity, Operation Smile, and had to share it because it made my day. Enjoy!
Volunteer Collects 100,000 Cans to Raise 19 Smiles
Chelmsford, Mass. –George Ouellette may be retired after 40 years as a salesman, but he still works up to six or seven hours per day walking through parks, hillsides, along busy roads and even rummaging through garbage cans to collect cans and bottles to help create smiles for children in need. The 84-year-old collects enough cans and bottles to equal $250, reimbursable for five-cents each at the local recycling center, and then writes a check to Operation Smile for the full amount.

Since 2005, Ouellette has collected over 100,000 cans, raising a total of $4,440 and providing 19 surgeries for children suffering from cleft lips and cleft palates. He collects around 1,000 cans a week year-round. Even the winter season in Chelmsford, Mass., doesn’t slow down his mission as he wears flannel-lined jeans to keep warm.

Ouellette first started volunteering and supporting Operation Smile when he saw a television show on Operation Smile in 2005. Ouellette could not believe that a child’s cleft lip or cleft palate could be repaired for only $240.

“The work of Operation Smile struck a chord in my dad and he decided that this would be his job - his purpose,” said Sue Ouellette, his eldest daughter.

Now, the employees at the recycling center know Ouellette so well that they don’t even bother to count the cans anymore – they merely ask him how many he has and give him the money. Ouellette’s 90-year-old wife supports his cause as the bookkeeper for the funds he raises.

Ouellette said collecting cans made him a bit uncomfortable at first, as people looked at him like he was a vagrant, but because he knows how much good he is doing with the money he continues to collect recyclables and tells everyone he encounters why he is collecting cans.

As he walks and collects recyclables, he hands out Operation Smile marketing materials to spread the word and shows pictures of children Operation Smile has helped when people ask why he is collecting cans. Ouellette is sure to mention that a child’s smile can be transformed for only $240.

In sharing his cause while collecting cans, Ouellette has developed a circuit of other supporters who save cans and bottles for him. He often makes his “rounds” to collect them and then he collects his own supply.

Ouellette also has the support of his four grown children, who buy him warm clothes and items for collecting cans and bottles as holiday gifts.

“My dad was a hard-working salesman for many years. However, he felt like he had not done enough to give back to the world, even after raising and educating four children,” said Sue Ouellette. “He’s not only an amazing father and volunteer; he’s an inspiration to anyone.”

Leona Lewis's new song, "Happy", from her upcoming Echo album, is set to be released in stores November 9th or 17th! The first single, "Happy," was co-written by Leona herself and producer Ryan Tedder, who also was involved in her hit song "Bleeding Love." Commenting on the song, Leona said, "The vocal was totally spontaneous. I sang it as soon as we finished writing. Sometimes it's better not to over-think things." Ryan added, "I honestly feel it is the most beautiful song I've ever been a part of." I heard this song on the radio this morning for the first time today! I was unable to find the song/video anywhere online, not even on her personal website, so hopefully they will release that sooner than the song. Any videos on YouTube were removed, bummer. I was able to locate a site that had an MP3 download if you click on the link below. The lyrics to this song are great, powerful, and with her amazing voice, this song will reach #1 on the charts. I will keep my eye out for the video online so I can later post it, but the lyrics give a little taste.

LABOR DAY 2009 ☼

Labor Day, last Hurrah for the summer, is an annual holiday celebrated all over the world that resulted from the labor union movement. Celebrating the economic and social achievements of workers from every walk of life. Most countries celebrate this holiday on May 1st. The United States and Canada celebrate on the first Monday of September. It was inaugurated by the Knights of Labor in 1882, and then made a national holiday by the U.S Congress in 1984.We know the celebration of Labor Day is known for the Eight-hour day movement, which advocated: eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest. However, it’s easy to forget what this holiday really means, and we focus more on where are we going to travel?! Palm Desert, Catalina, Vegas, Havasu and other hot party destinations are popular to travel to during this holiday (I will of course be in Palm Desert!). The founder of Labor Day remains unclear, but it has been written that either Peter McGuire, co-founder of the American Federation of Labor, or Matthew Maguire, secretary of the Central Labor Union, is responsible for proposing the holiday. Thank you boys! So I will remember what we're truely celebrating this coming Monday, while enjoying the weekend with great friends and meeting new friends. CHEERS!

MAYBE She's just not that into YOU

There are books out there for Woman "What Not to do" and guides on how to "play the game." The most famous book and now movie, "He's Just Not That Into you." Classic we know. The book is pretty dead on when it comes to dating and following "rules" and the movie was even better. If he hasn't called in a month, he probably didn't lose his phone in the ocean. Lets reverse the roles though, shall we? Why is it that we woman are labeled so easily. It would make sense that it would be 50/50, right? There are both woman and men that, let's say, that can't "play the game." For some reason though the focus is on woman only. I think that yes, woman are more emotional and we tend to act on our feelings and follow our heart, where the guy sits back waits the stupid 3 days before calling. And for the record, guys, you have more game if you call right away if you're interested. We know that you're trying to be cool, play the game, not seem like you're too eager, so save it. Dimitri, the Stud (thanks for helping the woman out on this one), was so kind to leave the greatest messages I have ever heard, one for the books. The story is this: a girl was out with friends having drinks on King St (in Toronto ). This guy approaches her and won't leave her alone -saying how cute she is. She finally gives in and hands the guy her business card to get rid of him.

After hearing them you can clearly see why she didn't call him back - instead she called in to the Z103.5 morning show & had them play this on the air.
